HELLO INTERNET! :)

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas filled with presents, love and gifts (and not too much food!). To finish off this year, heres an interview from the lovely Flowvers band.

So I had the wonderful opportunity to interview frontman Matisse from the band. Flowvers are an indie rock teen boyband, who are based in Portsmouth, England. The band consists of three main permanent members are;

Matisse Morretti (15) lead vocals and guitar,

Henry Wood (14) bass and keys,

Stanley Powell (16) lead guitarist,

and occasional drummer Connor Griffins.

1. Where is the name of your band from?

After what felt like a long time struggling to find a decent name we had things coming and going but nothing stack and something we'd all agree on. But then I (Matisse, vocals)said The Flow forevers and then I think Henry (bass) Flowvers so we kinda all found it together. And it means just that flow forever based around a peace song cause we're all fans

2. Who are your musical models?

I mean we all love the 80s and the 90s, we all love the stone roses or got each other into them and I adore the Cure and enjoy all the bands they influence like Jaws. Then on the songwriting side I really look up to Noel Gallagher, Neil young, Paul weller. The simplicity of their lyrics is what inspires me although I fancy myself a Morrisey hahah

3. How do you feel to be in a 'boy band' ?

Being called a boy band makes me laugh but it's litterally just all of coming together with all our problems and influences and getting away from school and work and parents. It's not all that grand at this point but we're so amazed at all the attention we been getting as such an early band we hope it only gets better!

4. How long have you been writing your songs for?

I been writing songs since I was about 6 and making up lyrics mostly about playground affairs which seemed all so important. But now I sort of just get a feeling and run with it. Some people write things when they're out and sitting watching a view of something but I go out take it all in and then sit myself in a dark room and write it all down one way or another.

5. If someone has never heard your music, how would you describe it?

We're yet to find our sound as were early doors but we want to be dancy that's for sure. No point turning up to a gig and standing there for hours. We wanna get people involved and take something away from our music. Once I taught the music side to the song Stanley focuses hard on how to compliment the lyrics with effects and stuff because that's his things. He likes it loud. But the lyrics can and will be heard aswell because we want people to sing along. If you can't hear the lyrics there's No point of having them in the first place is there?

6. If your band had a mixtape, what would be the first song?

The band don't know any songs. Henrys a perfectionist when it comes to music and Stan and hen have to hold me back because I always want to record to put something out for people to see but they wanna get it done well in practise first so to answer your question our songs aren't complete enough to even think about an EP were just gonna get the demos out as they come and as best they come

7. Are there any upcoming tours/ songs we should look out for?

Yes, we might be performing at Matisse's school in the new year and as we're all from Portsmouth area and around Hampshire and we're all still in secondary school so have to get that all done. Once that's finished we're start touring and well be able to meet some sick people. And As said before we don't have a schedule just be ready to share and like our stuff when it comes and we hope you like it.

Flow Forever 💙

From left to right (Stanley, Henry and Matisse)

Asides from all being dashingly good looking, these lads make pretty good music! Listening to their song 'Fresh Air' ( https://m.facebook.com/pg/we.r.flowvers/videos/?__nodl&ref=page_internal&mt_nav=1 ) I felt as though I was listening to a mixture of The Hunna and Cigarettes After Sex with a hint of the Stone Roses. Actually listening to Fresh Air, Matisse as a voice in which you would assume sounds like your average male band singers, but its not. His voice has a soft but raspy undertone which will most likely have every girl after him sooner or later... Considering the fact that both Henry and Stanley both play instruments and do not sing, they just aren't two cute guys who stand on either side of Matisse. Both of these two equally have great musical talents. Maybe they'll be background singers in the future?? Even watching the video from the link above, you can see the rustic editing which makes Flowvers seem extremely vintage and grundy/ indie. Unfortunately in this video, we cannot see drummer Connor, but that isn't much of a problem as we can see Matisse, Henry and Stanley! However, one really sad downfall is that the boys do not have a YouTube/ SoundCloud whereby we can all listen to their music. But this is understandable due to the fact that their ages range from 14-16 which are the most important school years in the UK.

Overall, I believe that Flowvers is a band in which anyone reading from the Portsmouth area should keep a close lookout for as I believe in the next couple years, even months, they will defiantly be known in the local area... maybe even more!
