X Lovers - Interview

HEYA EVERYONE! X

So I had the amazing privilege of interviewing the talented trio ‘X Lovers’ from California. The band started off with just London and Jacob, who met through their little sisters – when they were in middle school. They started making some music together. They knew that they wanted to make something of it. They met Max soon thereafter and have been a band ever since. They are currently 18, 18 and 19 (Max is 19), Max graduated high school last June and Jacob and London are finishing their senior year home schooling because they are on the road about half of the time with the band. Unfortunatley, due to personal reasoning, Max did leave the band, however both London and Jacob continue the dream of 'X Lovers' with Max in mind.

What does the name of your band mean& how did you come up with it??

“We feel like everybody’s an X Lover to something, someone, or somewhere… So it just kind of felt right. That’s what the name means and where it ultimately comes from.”

Who are your influences? In other words, who do you look up to musically?

“We’re honestly so inspired by the things we get to experience every day. But musically everybody from Etta James, The Rolling Stones, Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, etc. Really everything, yaaa know?”

What’s it like being in a ‘boy band’?

“Hmm… We are aware that we’re teenage boys in a band but we’ve never really considered ourselves a boy band. We try writing from a place of vulnerability, and if that is somehow able to make people feel something we’ll be forever grateful. Generic boy band boundaries are less important in today’s day in age.”

How do you come up with and write your songs?

“As teenagers in today’s world it’s truly so easy to write songs… It’s like the medicine to anything we’re going through. So whether it be a perfect date or a sad day music is always there to portray the feelings involved.”

How would you describe your music for someone who’s never listened to you?

“We play alternative pop. If you like hip hop and pop you may like our soon to be released singles. We just want to make people feel alive and the lustful feeling(s) that teenage-hood evokes.”

As a band, which song of yours would be your top and why?

“[One of our songs?] If so; we have recently relased a new song called 'Believe'. That one’s always made us feel super alive. We’re sooo stoked for people to enjoy it.”

Is there any new music/ tours which we should look out for?

“We’re going to be releasing some new singles we recorded at Universal Music Group in Santa Monica, CA. super soon. They are a new sound for us but we’re super stoked for everyone to hear them. As for touring, we’re going to be taking on California as much as possible right now, but hope to tour Europe and more of the U.S. ASAP”

Listening to their music (on their YouTube channel) I’ve found that it’s very nice and sweet! Well what I mean is that it’s very chilled but also kind of rocky at the same time – which is super awesome. I listened to their cover of ‘Wild Things’ by Alessia Cara; to be fair I’ve never heard the original…but their version was absolutely brilliant! There’s honestly not much that I can say about Jacob, Max and London without sounding extremely biased! But all I have to say is that when they release their new music, I will listen to it; and you should too! I’m definitely a fan! And I hope that some of you will be also! And I mean they aren't exactly bad for the eye, now are they?
